From recorded work to a reviewed payroll handoff.

What this means for your team

Make the next step easier.

  • Cash and card tip records
  • Allocations based on qualifying worked time
  • Dated policies and retained calculation history
  • Penny remainders carried forward with a clear record

A working-day example

Close the service with an explainable allocation

After service, a manager reviews actual hours and records the tip total. Staff can then see their own allocation.

  1. 01

Review the team's actual times and breaks.

  2. 02

Record cash and card tips, or explicitly confirm a no-tips day.

  3. 03

Check the applicable dated policy and qualifying work.

  4. 04

Review the allocation and keep the original calculation and carry history.

Illustrative workflow using synthetic examples.

Use worked time, not guesswork

The sharing process connects to qualifying actual work rather than simply dividing by the number of people on a rota.

  • Qualifying time across multiple shifts
  • Dated eligibility and sharing rules
  • Separate recorded and planned hours

Keep the pennies accounted for

Allocations use whole pennies, with undistributed remainders retained in the carry record.

  • Cash and card source totals
  • Penny-based calculations
  • Reviewed carry and paid-history reconciliation

Let people see their own picture

Staff can review their own tips alongside their hours, without gaining access to everyone else's records.

  • Own tip allocation details
  • Linked worked-time context
  • Controlled corrections and retained history

Useful answers

A closer look.

Are tips split equally per person?

The supported sharing process uses qualifying worked time under the applicable dated policy. A person's job title or number of separate shifts does not turn into an equal share.

Does recording tips send money to staff?

No. A recorded allocation and a recorded payment are separate. StaffSail's tip review does not move money.

Are unpaid volunteers included automatically?

No. Volunteer status does not create wage or tip entitlement. Participation must follow the business's explicit supported settings and policy.
